Eric Elmond Attends Oxfam Hunger Banquet at The University of Akron

2013 Jan 10

Eric Elmond, of Akron, OH, attended an Oxfam Hunger Banquet at The University of Akron to gain a hands-on understanding of poverty and hunger. Elmond is majoring in Chemistry. The event was hosted by serveAkron on Thursday, Nov. 15.

The Oxfam Hunger Banquet is an interactive dinner and presentation that discusses international injustices faced by women. As students entered the event, they received a “dinner card” that indicated their income level for the evening. Based on that income level, students sat at a high, middle, or low-income table and were served a meal that corresponded to their income level. High income students dined on chicken, pasta, vegetables, a plated dessert, coffee or tea, and water. Middle-income students received beans, rice, rolls, tea, and cookies. And low-income diners were served beans, rice, and water.
