Julie Junker participated in Alternative Spring Break

2015 Apr 2

Julie Junker of Gibsonia, PA was one of 91 University of Akron students to complete a variety of service projects during the ninth annual Alternative Spring Break, March 23-26.

From creating rain barrels to building a shed, siding a house, and constructing raised flowers beds?just a few of the impactful projects students completed. Participants experienced a rewarding service opportunity which took some outside of their comfort zone and allowed them to learn new skills. As students reflected on their experience many noted feeling more connected to the University and now having a renewed sense of pride in being a Zip and commitment in volunteering.

Junker was a member of the Georgia team. In Georgia, forty-two members of the fraternity and sorority community helped to paint, landscape, build garden beds, and create a hiking trail at Camp Twin Lakes. Located in Winder, this non-profit offers camps for children facing serious illnesses, disabilities and other life challenges.
