Katelyn Pavick participated in Alternative Spring Break 2016 #UAASB2016

2016 Mar 30

Katelyn Pavick of Rittman, OH was one of more than 90 University of Akron students to complete a variety of service projects during the tenth annual Alternative Spring Break, March 21-25. Groups worked with one of three diverse non-profit organizations in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida. In all, these volunteers dedicated 3,056 hours to making a difference.

Pavick spent the week at Forest Animal Rescue by Peace River Refuge & Ranch in Silver Springs, Fla., a lifetime care sanctuary for non-releasable wild animals. The animals they rescue come from lives of abuse or neglect and have almost always narrowly escaped being destroyed for lack of a place to go. The animals in the care range from big cats to bears, wolves, primates, bats and more. Volunteers constructed a main gate fence, creating fenced in animal habitats, had a behind-the-scenes tour of the grounds, and cleared away invasive plants and brush.
