Logan Hershberger participated in Alternative Spring Break 2016 #UAASB2016

Logan Hershberger of Canton, OH was one of more than 90 University of Akron students to complete a variety of service projects during the tenth annual Alternative Spring Break, March 21-25. Groups worked with one of three diverse non-profit organizations in Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida. In all, these volunteers dedicated 3,056 hours to making a difference.

Hershberger spent the week at NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island in Manteo, N.C. The Aquarium includes indoor and outdoor exhibits, educational programs, classrooms, meeting spaces and a gift shop. In addition, there are two changing exhibit galleries, after-hour opportunities and special activities. Volunteers worked together to clear brush and small trees for the creation of an outdoor nature play areas for visitors. The group worked throughout the week to assemble parts for the play area, expanded the Aquarium's gardens, cleaned up areas damaged by hurricanes, and worked on Pea Island picking up trash and debris.
