The University of Akron's student chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers received an award - best student chapter in the U.S. Matthew Gibbons of Alliance, OH, is a member of the organization. Gibbons is majoring in Surveying & Mapping.

The University of Akron's American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter was chosen from a field of 281 universities across the U.S. and 11 other countries as the winner of the 2013 Robert Ridgway Award, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding Student Chapter of the ASCE. The award, which is based on the Chapter's activities and accomplishments, was presented to UA for the Chapter's collaboration on special projects and activities with other organizations, including their involvement in projects like Adopt a Highway, FIRST LEGO League District Tournament, and E-Week events.
